Hong Kong Caritas Youth & Community Service aims at the integral human development of the young people and communities through the process of understanding, concern, participation and co-responsibility.



Nowadays, the use of computer and internet has been very popular and tends to be one of the living skills. Students start from kindergarten may learn computer knowledge, and being attracted for various activities, such as online games, forums, blog, internet surfing, chatting with online friends, etc. As the teenagers spend more and more time on using computer, it has subsequently affected their studies as well as daily life. Conflicts with parents may arise with poor parent-child relationship resulted. Hence, a workgroup on net addiction has been formed by Caritas Youth & Community Service in 2004 in order to provide support and counseling service to parents and schools who are in need.



The Netopia Parents Seminar was jointly conducted by the net addiction workgroup and the Cyberport on 5 July, 2008. During the seminar, three guest speakers shared their views and experience:
1. Mr. Paul Law, youth social worker --- analyzed the trend of online activities amongst teenagers.
2. Mr. Ting Sik Chuen, psychiatric doctor --- elaborated the impact of playing video / online games on mental health
3. Ms. Chan Ki, senior counselor --- proposed to parents the techniques to solve the above problems and the communication skills with their children.
